The new OMODA C9 PHEV, a luxury plug-in hybrid SUV that combines electrified efficiency, performance, and premium luxury, has officially launched in South Africa. Designed for customers who value sustainability, luxury, and performance, the C9 PHEV offers all-electric capability for everyday journeys and the power and range of a petrol engine for longer journeys.

This marks the next step in OMODA’s commitment to offering South African drivers more electrified options.

With an electric-only range of up to 150 km and a combined range of over 1,100 km, the C9 PHEV suits daily commutes and weekend escapes. A powerful combination of a high-efficiency electric motor and refined petrol engine delivers seamless power, with outputs totalling 440 kW and 915 Nm of torque. As such, the C9 PHEV impresses with responsive acceleration, but that doesn’t come at the cost of fuel consumption. The combined fuel-use figure is as low as 1.4 L/100 km, making it an exceptionally efficient luxury SUV.

Charging is fast and straightforward, whether at home or one of South Africa’s growing network of public charging stations. The 34.5 kWh battery pack can be recharged in 5.5 hours when connected to a home charging Wall Box. Thanks to its 70 kW fast-charging capability, the C9 PHEV can replenish its battery from 30-80% in 25 minutes when plugged into a DC fast charger.

The C9 PHEV surrounds its occupants with premium finishes, advanced connectivity features, and intuitive technology. From soft-touch materials to an immersive sound system and intelligent driver assistance features, every detail reflects OMODA’s dedication to luxury.

Offered exclusively in the range-topping Explore trim, the C9 PHEV greets customers with refined exterior styling. It features an eye-catching diamond-shaped grille, daytime running lights, and LED head- and taillights. The C9 PHEV boasts 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and privacy glass for the second row. Red-painted brake callipers hint at sportiness, underscoring the C9 PHEV’s performance capabilities.

Exterior colours include Cosmic Black, Meteorite Grey, Moonlight White, and Quantum Grey. The C9 PHEV introduces a two-tone black roof option, available exclusively with Moonlight White and Tech Grey.

In line with the C9 PHEV’s premium status, the interior combines contemporary design with high-end materials to create a distinctive experience for both front and rear occupants. The PHEV features Black/Light Brown Premium Nappa leather-trimmed seats, adding a layer of sophistication to the cabin. The front seats are electrically adjustable—six-way for the driver and four-way for the front passenger—and offer heating and ventilation for year-round comfort. The Nappa leather-trimmed steering wheel is also heated, enhancing the sense of luxury and attention to detail.

Rear passengers also have an electrically adjustable backrest and seat heating. Standard equipment includes dual-zone climate control, second-row air conditioning controls, and heated and cooled armrest storage.

For a more luxurious and quiet driving experience, the C9 PHEV features acoustic laminated glass. This glass reduces aural intrusions within the cabin by minimising wind noise, resulting in a more relaxed interior ambience.

A comprehensive entertainment and media package will entertain passengers on even the longest journeys. A 12-speaker Sony Sound System provides a crisp and clear listening experience for even the most discerning audiophiles. Bluetooth connectivity, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, is standard, as is a 50w wireless charging pad for mobile devices.

The sumptuous cabin features dual 12.3-inch digital displays. The centre control screen operates the audio and other vehicle controls, while the Driver Cluster Screen displays necessary and relevant information. Thanks to the intuitive Intelligent Voice Command system, one never needs to take one’s hands off the wheel; simply say “Hello, OMODA,” and the vehicle can carry out tasks based on voice commands.

Other convenience features on the C9 include remote keyless start, push-button start, and a power-operated tailgate, revealing 660 litres of boot space (1,783 litres with the second row folded flat).

“The addition of the C9 PHEV to OMODA’s lineup signals a new era for efficient luxury motoring in South Africa,” said Hans Greyling, General Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “It’s an SUV for those who want to embrace electric mobility but value performance, elegance, and safety. It’s the best of both worlds – electric when you want it, petrol when you need it.”

The OMODA C9 PHEV comes standard with a range of driver-assist and safety systems, designed to keep occupants safe. The following safety systems can be found on the new OMODA C9 PHEV:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Automatic Braking (AEB)
  • Blind-Spot Monitoring (BSM)
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA)
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Brake (RCTB)
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  • Lane Change Assist (LCA)
  • Lane Departure Prevention (LDP)
  • Integrated Cruise Assist (ICA)
  • Traffic Congestion Assist (TCA)

Other safety features include front/rear parking sensors, a 540-degree surround-view camera, and front dual, front-side, side curtain, driver knee, and bolster airbags.

The C9 PHEV signals OMODA’s readiness to compete in the electrified premium SUV space, with a vehicle that delivers on what today’s drivers value most: electric capability, long-range usability, and luxury features that feel a class or two above,” concluded Gahagan.

Pricing for the new OMODA C9 PHEV is R999,000. The latest addition to the OMODA lineup comes with a seven-year/100,000 km service plan, seven-year/200,000 km vehicle warranty, a 10-year/200,000 km warranty for certain electric drive unit components, a 10-year/1 million km engine warranty, and a new industry-leading 10-year/unlimited km power battery pack warranty (for the first owner, reverting to 10 years/200,000 km for subsequent owners). Buyers also receive seven years of roadside assistance, offering added peace of mind and enhanced ownership value.
