  • Second for Harry King and fourth for championship leader Larry ten Voorde postpones the title decision to the Hockenheim finale in three weeks
  • Kas Haverkort now leads the Rookie class
  • Michael Essmann repeats Saturday’s ProAm success with another win

Rookie versus old hand: The thrilling duel between newcomer Flynt Schuring and title hopeful Harry King dominated Sunday’s race of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland at the Red-Bull-Ring. Tackling the race from pole position, Schuring successfully fended off his pursuer’s repeated attacks like a true pro. After 21 laps, the 18-year-old Dutchman from the German Proton Huber Competition squad celebrated his first Carrera Cup victory. Driving for Allied-Racing, King’s second place postponed the title decision until the season finale. Series leader Larry ten Voorde took the flag in fourth place at the wheel of Proton Huber Competition’s Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. The Dutchman heads to the doubleheader finale with a 35-point advantage over King. Hockenheim hosts the final two races of the 2024 season on the 19th and 20th of October.

After clinching victories in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux and also in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia just a week ago, Flynt Schuring is now the eighth race winner in this year’s Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland. “My season didn’t start so well but I’ve improved from race to race. To now score my first win is truly amazing,” said a delighted Schuring, who also received the trophy for first place in the Rookie classification.

After winning the first race of the weekend at the Red-Bull-Ring on Saturday, King was not entirely happy with second place. “I think I could’ve beaten Flynt,” the Englishman speculated. Heading into the race from fourth on the grid, he immediately catapulted past Ten Voorde and swept past Kas Haverkort shortly afterwards. King then set his sights on Schuring, making multiple attempts to overtake the leader. “But when I received a track limits warning from the race director, I stopped attacking. Still, even with second place, I managed to close the gap to Larry ten Voorde by a couple of points.”

The series leader succumbed to King in the second corner. “Harry had nothing to lose today, I saw that when he overtook me. The only thing that mattered to me then was to reach the finish line unscathed,” stated Ten Voorde. This was also why the defending Carrera Cup champion held back from attacking third-placed Kas Haverkort.

The Dutchman from the Uniserver by Team GP Elite squad was particularly pleased with his points haul for second place in the Rookie category. “I couldn’t match Flynt and Harry’s pace today,” admitted Haverkort. “But at least I’ve extended my lead in the Rookie standings.” Thanks to his achievements at the two Red-Bull-Ring races, Haverkort has replaced his fellow countryman Robert de Haan at the top of the rankings in this category. Competing for the Team75 Bernhard crew, the 18-year-old crossed the finish line in fifth place, only to have a time penalty strip him of this position. The title decision will now go down to the wire at Hockenheim between Haverkort, De Haan and Schuring, who sits twelve points behind the leader.

Fifth place went to Huub van Eijndhoven (Uniserver by Team GP Elite), with sixth occupied by his Israeli teammate Ariel Levi.

Among the ProAm drivers, Sören Spreng looked like the certain winner. However, in the final laps of the race, the ProAm leader from the GP Elite team became entangled in a collision and fell to the back of this group. Michael Essmann repeated his first-place result from Saturday, this time beating his CarTech Motorsport teammate Kai Pfister. “That was a cool race with lots of duels. It was great fun,” concluded Essmann. The trophy for third place among the ProAm drivers went to the Robert Schlünssen (Allied-Racing) from Denmark. The bid for the title is now between Sören Spreng and Michael Essmann, who are separated by just six points. In the team classification, the duel between Proton Huber Competition and Uniserver by Team GP Elite continues in the final.

“The Red-Bull-Ring offers the lot: We once again treated spectators to two thrilling and action-packed races. Sincere congratulations to Flynt Schuring on his maiden victory in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland. All title decisions are still open – the final at the Hockenheimring in three weeks is guaranteed to be a real thriller,” commented Thorsten Rückert, Project Manager of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland.
