The Volkswagen Rookie Cup has become a battle between sophomore lads and the first year drivers as the series heads to round 3 of 2025 at Zwartkops on Saturday 21 June. Runner-up in 2024, Uzair Khan’s consistent form sees him into a five-point Volkswagen Rookie Cup championship advantage, but there’s no guarantee the young Durbanite will retain that advantage in Pretoria.
Rookie VW Challenge Brat Pack Class C champion Christopher Tait won the second Aldo Scribante race and he has fellow race winners, second year driver Josh Moore and rookie former karter Mauro Da Luz hot on his heels. Oval graduate Giovanni Fiorotto tumbled from the lead to fifth in the chase last time, such is the level of Rookie Cup competition. He leads karter Luke Hill, racing lass Berlin Robinson and Luke Corbett.
“The 2025 Volkswagen Cup Rookies have impressed way beyond their years at every turn so far this season,” Volkswagen Head of Motorsport Mike Rowe explains. “We have had four different winners in four races with the rest snapping at their heels. So we just can’t wait to see what transpires at Zwartkops on Saturday.”

A Volkswagen Motorsport initiative open to young racing drivers between 14 and 16 years of age, who hold a valid MSA licence, the Rookie Cup is designed to deliver a seamless transition for that all-important step up to main circuit motor racing.
Rookie Cup works as an academy of motor racing. It goes far beyond best racing lines, perfect brake markers and racecraft.
