- Dominant Volkswagen Motorsport 1-2 in SATC SupaCup championship
- One point separates Charl Visser, Jonathan Mogotsi in SupaCup title chase
- Top rookie Kyle Visser sits fifth in Astron Energy Polo Cup
Volkswagen Motorsport is in complete control as the team heads to Zwartkops Raceway for the third round of National Championship Extreme Festival races in Pretoria on Saturday 18 May.
Just one championship point separates team drivers, the experienced Jonathan Mogotsi and 2023 Polo Cup champion and SupaCup rookie Charl Michael Visser at the top of the SATC SupaCup leaderboard.
Volkswagen Rookie Cup champion Kyle Visser meanwhile sits a fine fifth overall and comfortably the best rookie in Astron Energy Polo Cup.
“We have enjoyed an exceptional start to the season and we celebrated that with a bit of class winning fun at the Simola Hillclimb last weekend,” Mike Rowe, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport points out. “But now it’s back to our day job and we are looking forward to next weekend’s Zwartkops Extreme Festival.”
“Our entire team is primed to pick up where we left off with a dominant start to our National racing season at Killarney, and then Kyalami, with Jonathan and Charl Michael’s SupaPolos in charge in SATC SupaCup and young rookie Kyle Visser impressing in Astron Energy Polo Cup. We’re a great team, and we are ready to race, let’s go get it guys!”
“To be leading the championship by just a single point is normally quite stressful,” Jonathan Mogotsi, shrugged.” But it’s my Volkswagen Motorsport teammate Charl Michael right there behind me, so no stress this time round. Now we’re looking forward to continuing our domination of the class at Zwartkops, so bring it on!”
“I have to admit that I’m delighted to be in such a strong position in the SATC SupaCup championship after just two rounds,” Charl Michael Visser admits. “Of course the experience of winning the Polo Cup title and three years racing there is golden, but I also have a brilliant team behind me, which has so far made my SupaCup rookie year a brilliant experience. Thanks so much to the team, let’s do this, Jonathan!”
“2024 has been quite a learning curve in Astron Energy Polo Cup, but I am over the moon with my results so far at Killarney and Kyalami,” Kyle Visser explains. “As always, there’s a lot of drama in Polo Cup at Zwartkops, so it’s always a challenge, but the plan is to stay out of trouble and work on my pace and consistency. I also have an awesome team behind me, so I can’t wait to race in Pretoria!”
“Zwartkops is always an incredible weekend of action and drama, so I wish our guys the best of luck this weekend,” Mike Rowe concludes. “It’s also a great opportunity for race fans to witness the extreme action and best racing in South Africa close up and personal. So see you at Zwartkops!”
