  • Citroën ë-C4 and ë-C4 X offer new electric motor and battery combination on these two models, a unique dual proposition in the C-segment.
  • This new version, which combines a new 115 kW (156 hp) electric motor with a new 54 kWh battery with improved energy density, offers enhanced driving pleasure and an extended range up to 420 km in WLTP cycle.
  • Available on the Shine trim level at launch, ë-C4 and ë-C4 X 115 kW (156 hp) offer complements the current 100 kW (136 hp) version and provides a wider choice to our customers.

Citroën is stepping up the pace and strengthening its position with the arrival of an additional offer on the ë-C4 and ë-C4 X ranges, boasting a more powerful engine and extended operating range, up to 420 km. With the adoption of a new electric motor and battery combination on these two models, Citroën is the only mainstream brand to offer two electric vehicles in the C segment.

STRENGTHENING THE C-SEGMENT OFFER

Citroën presents a new electric offer for ë-C4 and ë-C4 X with a new high-performance powertrain that can achieve up to 420 km according to the WLTP cycle. This increase in range of almost 17% compared to the first generation is based on the combination of a new 54 kWh advanced-chemistry battery and a new more efficient and powerful motor developing 115 kW (136 hp). Therefore, customers benefit from more versatility and convenience.

Initially available only on the Shine level, this new offer on ë-C4 and ë-C4 X adds up the current electric range, which combines a 100 kW (136 bhp) motor with a 50 kW battery for a range of up to 360 km, providing a wider choice to our customers.

These two electric powertrains are at the core of Citroën’s electrification strategy, which aims to make the transition to electric vehicles easier and stress-free. They share the same philosophy of a reasoned choice of battery size and a 100 kW rapid charging capacity, supporting a competitive price positioning while offering great versatility of use.

With this new electric vehicle, Citroën has strengthened its appeal in the C-segment and is clearly positioning itself as a major player in the market.

Each offering a strong personality, an unparalleled on-board experience and a range of efficient electric motors and petrol powertrains, C4 and C4 X put forward a highly competitive core market offering. This attractiveness is reflected in the number of orders and registrations. In Europe, ë-C4 is ranked 5th in the compact electric saloon segment and the petrol C4 is 3rd in its category.

NEW ELECTRIC MOTOR FOCUSED ON EFFICIENCY

Ë-C4 and ë-C4 X offer a new electric motor with extended range, enabling it to exceed the symbolic value of 400 km (in the combined WLTP cycle). The motor and battery of this new electric powertrain have been designed to be more efficient and benefit from major technological developments.

The new 115 kW (156 hp) hybrid synchronous electric motor (HSM) replaces the permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. It produces an additional 15 kW (20 hp), while maintaining a high level of efficiency. This engine is capable of developing 260 Nm of torque that is instantly available, providing immediate responsiveness and driving pleasure.

The new 54 kWh battery delivers 4 kWh more than the current electric offer. Compact, with liquid thermal regulation and a heat pump as standard for fast charging, it has different chemistry and includes 102 cells and 17 modules. Instead of 60% nickel, 20% manganese and 20% cobalt, this high-voltage Lithium-Ion battery has a higher nickel ratio (80% nickel, 10% manganese and 10% cobalt), resulting in improved energy density and longer battery life.

All these upgrades benefit to operating range -which increases by 17% and reaches up to 420 km (according to the combined WLTP cycle)- and improve the energy efficiency -by reducing the average energy consumption to 12 kW/h-. In addition, there are significant benefits in real-life customer use, which translate to +30 km in urban traffic conditions even at temperatures close to 0°C.

The efficiency of the electric motor, its battery and its ability to recover energy all contribute to increasing the operating range. However, this efficiency is also achieved through the design of C4 and C4 X:

  • The right battery size means less weight and lower consumption.
  • Optimised charging times thanks to DC charging capability using 100 kW fast charging.
  • Standard features such as the heat pump, which uses a humidity sensor to maximise the energy efficiency of heating and cooling.
  • The 18-inch “A+” tyres reduce rolling resistance and minimise energy loss through friction.
  • The C4 X silhouette, which flows seamlessly into the tailgate, has a clean, dynamic roofline in profile that optimises aerodynamics.

Despite the increased battery capacity, recharging times are not increased. Two types of on-board chargers are available on ë-C4 and ë-C4 X, to suit all uses and all charging solutions: a single-phase 7.4 kW charger as standard and, as an option, a three-phase 11 kW charger. In addition, ë-C4 and ë-C4 X are compatible with fast charging: using a 100 kW public terminal, it is possible to go from 20% to 80% charge in less than 30 minutes.

AFFORDABLE, EASY AND SERENE ELECTRIC MOBILITY

Responding to all everyday uses, the current electric offer on ë-C4 and ë-C4 X makes it possible to propose an accessible and relevant electric mobility for all kind of travels.

Now based on 2 electric offers, the new line-up proposes:

  • On the Live, Feel and Feel Pack levels: a 100 kW (136 hp) motor combined with a 50 kWh battery with a range up to 360 km. It is an excellent compromise with a controlled budget and the ability to cover all journeys without stress.
  • On the Shine level, a new, more powerful and efficient 115 kW (156 hp) engine and a 54 kWh battery with new chemistry, enable this electric offering to provide even more driving pleasure, range and versatility.

With this new electric offering, Citroën’s ë-comfort concept lives up to its promises:

  • A smooth drive, with no vibrations, engine noise or smoke, enhanced by Citroën’s signature Advanced Comfort on-board comfort, including an innovative, soft suspension system and plush seats.
  • Smooth and pleasant driving without the need to shift gears,
  • Peppy and responsive driving thanks to 260 Nm of immediately available torque,
  • Electric driving with zero CO2 emissions for free and unrestricted driving in all areas with traffic restrictions.

And for more peace of mind, customers still benefit from remotely programmable services via the MyCitroën smartphone application, making life easier for customers on a daily basis.

Depending on trim levels, the new Citroën ë-C4 and ë-C4 X 115 kW (156 hp) / 54 kWh battery will propose range from 415 to 421 km (WLTP cycle).
