  • Mitsubishi have treated their evergreen Triton to Shogun status.
  • Unique Shogun touches amplify all the highlights of the Triton.
  • A Sony sound system with smartphone mirroring capability is now standard.

Mitsubishi are giving their evergreen Triton the Shogun treatment, which encompasses a variety of unique touches and additional functional equipment. This limited-edition model is sure to appeal to enthusiasts while continuing to offer excellent value.

“The Triton remains a top seller for Mitsubishi in South Africa with buyers continually attracted to its unique styling, excellent performance and pedigree that has been honed in the world of motorsport along with legendary off-road capability, all characteristics that are now highlighted by the unique Shogun touches,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

Based on the Triton 4×4 Automatic the Shogun is distinguished by a black front bumper garnish, head light covers as well as matt black front fog light covers. Up top the roof rails are finished in a matching dark hue while a bespoke Shogun sports bar presides over the load bin which is finished with a tonneau cover and tailgate lock. The rear lights feature similar matt black covers and a tow bar is fitted as standard. A matching nudge bar is available as an optional extra.

The bespoke treatment continues to the interior where the Triton Shogun features  a leather steering wheel, parking brake and floor console finished with black and red stitching. The leather seats and door trim have also been treated to red leather stitching.

Legendary off-road capability amplified

The Mitsubishi Triton is well known for its go anywhere off-road capability, a factor that is further amplified by the fitment of Dunlop A/T 265/60R18 all-terrain tyres to the black alloy wheels.

The Triton’s off-road capability is underpinned by Mitsubishi’s legendary Super Select II 4WD system that ensures surefooted driving across any surface. When traversing slippery terrain, the system transfers power to the wheels with grip instantaneously. Selectable off-road mode maximises traction by offering a variety of modes including Gravel, Mud/Snow or Sand when in 4hLc to suit surface conditions and optimise engine output, transmission settings and braking for superior traction. Rock mode can be engaged in 4LLc. Boasting 220mm of ground clearance, approach and departure angles of 31 and 29 degrees respectively and a 25-degree ramp breakover angle the Triton has the credentials to tackle any obstacle.

Tried and tested features at its core

Doing duty under the bonnet is Mitsubishi’s tried and tested 2.4L DOHC MIVEC diesel engine. Offering 133kW at 3 500r/min and 430Nm at 2 500r/min it is mated to a smooth shifting six-speed automatic transmission that features Intelligent Shift Control.

“This combination ensures a driving experience and power delivery that it is just right and always in the sweet spot, ensuring effortless performance as a daily driver, workhorse or overlanding companion, along with frugal fuel consumption,” adds Allison.

Infotainment improvements

The interior of the Triton offers a great combination of a robust design finished with high-quality materials across all touch points. In the Shogun a comprehensive interior specification is bolstered by the fitment of a Sony car audio system complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring functionality.

Pricing

As with the entire Triton range, the Triton Shogun is covered by Mitsubishi’s manufacturer’s warranty of three years or 100 000km, a five-year/90 000km service plan and five-year/unlimited mileage roadside assistance. Service intervals are every 10 000km.
