Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced the Women’s Empowerment Principles, established by the United Nations Women (UN Women) and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). WEPs)” has been signed. WEPs are principles that serve as action guidelines for companies working to promote the active participation of women, aiming for gender equality in the workplace, markets, and local communities.

We have a social responsibility to realize a world that is a better place. We will continue to fulfill that responsibility and invest in initiatives that will benefit future generations. This signature is a demonstration of that determination.”
In the automotive industry, which has traditionally been dominated by men, Nissan has worked for many years to create opportunities for women to flourish. We implement programs to develop female human resources and leadership, and support the balance between work and childcare or nursing care. As a result of these efforts, the ratio of women in managerial positions globally has risen from 6.7% in 2008 to 15.5% as of March 2023. In Japan, 10.4% of Nissan’s managers are women, higher than the 5.1% average for companies with more than 1,000 employees in the manufacturing industry*.
Going forward, Nissan will continue to promote communication among employees and improve engagement through round-table discussions, workshops, and other means. We will also promote diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives to create a workplace where the individuality and power of each individual is respected and where everyone can expand their potential.
