Nissan’s “Arc” business plan has been generating significant buzz lately, capturing the attention of enthusiasts and industry insiders alike. With a clear focus on enhancing the brand’s competitiveness and profitability in the global vehicle market, the Japanese automaker will introduce 30 new models by 2027. Of the 30 new models, 16 will be new electrified vehicles and 14 ICE vehicles.
The company has confirmed that five of the all-new EVs and six of the all-new ICE vehicles will be launched in the AMIEO region(Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania). In that same period, the company aims to update 60% of its internal combustion engine (ICE) passenger model lineup.
Nissan New Vehicles Confirmed For SA
As far as South Africa is concerned, Nissan South Africa’s Country Director Maciej Klenkiewicz has been quoted saying that two new passenger models sourced from India will be available in our market by 2026. Alongside the ongoing rollout of Nissan’s unique e-POWER technology, the company aims to introduce a fully electric vehicle to South African consumers by the conclusion of The Arc plan.
While not much has been divulged on the new SUVs or plans to expand its A-segment ICE vehicle range, there has been confirmation of an updated Navara package for an unveiling in late 2024, or sometime in 2025.
Slated to be the next-generation model, the renowned double-bakkie is set to receive a range of enhancements, encompassing fresh styling, an updated interior, and the possibility of new powertrain options, including an electrified powertrain technology. There have been reports that the recently launched Mitsubishi Triton ute will form the basis of Nissan’s next Navara.
Further, Nissan’s luxury division, Infiniti, has unveiled additional images and provided initial technical specifications for the all-new QX80, offering a glimpse into what will serve as a preview for the next-generation Patrol.
The Discontinuation Of The NP200
Nissan is in a state of transition. Since the discontinuation of the Chevrolet Utility, the NP200 has remained South Africa’s only half-ton bakkie. With the production of the NP200 bakkie having ceased, Nissan is expanding investments into its local Navara production in what it hopes will unlock the potential of the African market and drive the company’s mid-term plan.
Furthermore, the company intends to manufacture two additional models alongside its Navara one-ton pickup at its Rosslyn plant in Pretoria.
Nissan SA affirms its full commitment to South Africa and the broader continent as the final frontier of the automotive industry. The company has described the locally produced Navara as a “core model” pivotal to Nissan’s ambitions across the continent.
Forging Ahead
All these ambitious plans reflect the exciting opportunities ahead. Nissan has already developed a strong presence within SA and is well-positioned to maximise its growth and make an increasing and lasting contribution to the region.
