Toyota dominates Q2 2023 car sales in Botswana

A total of 9,174 motor vehicles were registered for the first time in Q2 2023, this was an increase of 25.3 percent when compared to the previous quarter. Passenger cars made up 74.4 percent of motor vehicles on first registration, followed by vans at 9.6 percent.

Of the 9,174 motor vehicles which were registered for the first time in Q2 2023, 76.4 percent were used, while 23.4 and 0.1 percent were brand new and rebuilt motor vehicles respectively. Motor vehicles originating from Japan accounted for most of the motor vehicles on first registration, at 66.2 percent of the total. Those from South Africa followed with 24.4 percent.

In Q2 2023, most of the motor vehicles registered for the first time were of Toyota make, constituting 31.3 percent of the total. Mazda and Honda brands followed at 20.5 and 20.3 percent respectively.

Thirty-eight point seven percent (38.7%) of motor vehicles on first registration were registered in June, while 33.1 and 28.2 percent were registered in May and April respectively.

Most of motor vehicles on first registrations were recorded in Gaborone at 83.7 percent of the total. Francistown followed with 11.2 percent, while Lobatse recorded 6.8 percent.
