  • Mercedes-Benz South Africa introduces uLuntu Lwethu (“Our Community” in isiXhosa), a docuseries celebrating the people behind the brand.
  • Focus on human stories, impact, and transformation.
  • Demonstrates how Mercedes-Benz South Africa-funded initiatives create lasting social impact through human-centred storytelling.

Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) presents uLuntu Lwethu (“Our Community” in isiXhosa), a compelling docuseries that honours the people shaping the brand from within. Conventionally defined by its products and prestige, uLuntu Lwethu focuses on the human stories behind the brand and its contribution to society and transformation during its 67 years in the country.

MBSA CEO and Executive Director: Manufacturing, Andreas Brand, commented:

“The uLuntu Lwethu docuseries honours the individuals who daily strive to build the world’s most desirable cars. Through the portrayal of their stories, we wish to celebrate the many who contribute to one of South Africa’s most productive sectors of the economy. Without people, there is no Mercedes-Benz. Their stories are a testament to the power of opportunity, transformation and the role business can play in fuelling possibilities through shaping an inclusive and equitable future.”

Through five personal narratives, the docuseries reveals how initiatives funded by MBSA create lasting social impact. Each episode offers an intimate portrayal of employees whose lives have been transformed, reflecting MBSA’s commitment to empowering communities and driving sustainable change.

Rooted in East London for over six decades, MBSA understands that meaningful transformation starts with people. This docuseries underscores the company’s belief that progress is only possible when communities thrive. Each narrative offers a personified portrayal of transformation, focusing on Enterprise & Supplier Development, Corporate Social Responsibility and Skills Development through the Mercedes-Benz Learning Academy.

More than a reflection of the past, uLuntu Lwethu celebrates the present and reaffirms MBSA’s commitment to the future. By sharing these stories, MBSA aims to inspire continued innovation, inclusion, and community upliftment.

Mercedes-Benz South Africa at a glance

Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the global company, Mercedes-Benz AG. Established in 1948, MBSA is one of the largest automotive groups in South Africa. MBSA headquarters are located in Pretoria, Menlyn Maine where the Sales and Marketing office for Mercedes-Benz Cars and Mercedes-Benz Vans operates from. With about 3.300 employees, the East London Plant is an important part of the global C-Class production network, manufacturing Mercedes-Benz C-Class cars in both left- and right-hand drive for the local and export markets.

With sustainability as a guiding principle of the global Mercedes-Benz strategy, this means creating lasting value for all stakeholders: for customers, employees, investors, business partners and society as a whole. Leveraging Mercedes-Benz AG’s pioneering achievements of more than 130 years, Mercedes-Benz aspires to be the leader in the field of electric mobility. At Mercedes-Benz the strategy is to go all electric by the end of the decade, wherever market conditions allow. Electric intelligence and sustainable modern luxury is what Mercedes-EQ stands for. Mercedes-Benz anticipates that by 2026 EVs will contribute 50% of total sales.
