Capetonian Andrew Rackstraw closed his rookie Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain season off with points finishes in both final round races at Brands Hatch on Saturday. Rackstraw qualified tenth despite losing his best times to track limits penalties before fighting a technical issue to eleventh in a tough opening race. He then closed the season off with a fine fight back to sixth in the season finale.
“This weekend wasn’t my greatest,” Andrew admitted. “Still, considering it was my first time on the full Brands Hatch circuit where most of my rivals have raced for years, I suppose it wasn’t too bad either. The first race started well, but the throttle started to stick, which was pretty scary, and especially hairy under braking with the engine still pushing. So I was happy to bring it home eleventh.
“Then it started raining in Race 2, and considering it was my first wet session at Brands, I was out there on my own! Still, I stuck my elbows out, pushed as hard as I dared and had some great fun fighting up to sixth. Overall, I was happy with my pace and I think we maximised our potential despite my lack of track knowledge this weekend.
“Huge thanks to all my sponsors, backers and fans for all the support through my Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain season. It’s been a great learning year; I had some good results and even won a race. Now we look forward to the possibility of using all the knowledge we have gained to come back and chase this championship in 2025.”
Andrew Rackstraw’s British racing season is not quite done yet. He will now prepare for the international Walter Hayes Formula Ford Trophy at Silverstone 2-3 November, where Andrew plans to do nothing less than take the two steps up the podium from his third place there last year…
