As South Africa’s automotive market accelerates toward technology led mobility, the Lepas L4 arrives to redefine the premium compact SUV segment, bringing together agility, intelligence, and a commanding presence for drivers who refuse to compromise.

Built for those who expect their vehicle to match the pace of modern life, the L4 delivers more than advanced digital technology and refined design. It offers a driving experience where premium comfort, everyday practicality, and intelligent engineering work in unison, responding to a market that is increasingly looking for vehicles that deliver both innovation and real world usability.

According to the TransUnion Q4 2025 Mobility Insights Report, new passenger vehicle sales exceeded 422 000 units in 2025, the strongest annual performance since 2014, driven by improved affordability and renewed consumer confidence. Against this backdrop, the L4 enters a market ready for vehicles that successfully bridge digital sophistication with intelligent design.

Intelligent design for everyday driving

The Lepas L4 brings its technology led promise to life through thoughtful engineering. Built on a front wheel drive platform with a 2 700 mm wheelbase, the L4 offers a more spacious cabin, improved legroom, and enhanced ride stability, delivering a smoother, more controlled drive across city commutes and longer journeys.

What sets the L4 apart, however, is how it fills a distinct gap in the local market, positioned precisely between the basic utility vehicle and the extreme personality car. It is tailored for discerning buyers who value practicality but still appreciate those unexpected touches of excitement.

“South African drivers are looking for more than a beautiful car, they want real value, efficiency, safety, and reliability,” says Jay Jay Botes, General Manager at Lepas South Africa. “With the L4, we’ve focused on what consumers truly need, combining technology, safety, and comfort into an accessible premium experience, while delivering genuine driving enjoyment.”

A digital driver centric cockpit

Inside, the L4 centres its interior experience on a 13.2 inch ultra large infotainment display with 2K resolution (1440 x 1920), powered by an X9H intelligent cockpit chip. The system integrates key vehicle controls, navigation, and connectivity through a responsive interface designed to simplify everyday driving.

Additional features include wireless smartphone charging, smart digital connectivity, and a 540° HD surround view camera system, creating a connected, driver focused environment.

Advanced safety and driver assistance

Safety remains central to the L4’s engineering. The SUV carries a 5 star safety rating and features a body structure with 60% high strength steel and aerospace grade aluminium crash beams.

Driver assistance systems include Adaptive Cruise Control with curve speed adjustment, Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), and advanced camera visibility systems helping reduce driver fatigue and improve safety across both congested urban traffic and highway conditions.

Performance, refinement, and what’s next

Powering the Lepas L4 is a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a dual clutch transmission, delivering a balance of performance and efficiency for everyday use. While not positioned as a dedicated performance model, the L4 offers three selectable drive modes, including a Sport mode that delivers spirited response capable of surprising drivers who appreciate a more engaging experience.

Equally important is cabin refinement. The L4’s engine has been engineered for exceptional noise suppression, resulting in a remarkably quiet interior that enhances comfort and reduces fatigue, even on longer journeys.

Looking ahead, the L4 is built on the LEX modular platform, underscoring Lepas’ commitment to scalable, future ready technology. As part of this strategy, plug in hybrid variants are confirmed for launch later this year, offering South African buyers even greater flexibility in their move toward electrified mobility.

Value for money and then some

Retailing from only R299 900, the Lepas L4 represents a shift in what South African drivers can expect from an accessible premium SUV. With the L4, technology, comfort, practicality, and even a touch of driving excitement are no longer trade offs, they are simply part of the package. Visit www.lepas-sa.co.za
