Hyundai Motor Company’s bold vision for electric mobility has been further validated on the global stage, with the all-electric Hyundai IONIQ 9 awarded the title of World’s Best Large Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) at the 2026 Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) Awards.
The Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year Awards are judged by an international panel of 84 respected female motoring journalists from 54 countries, who evaluate vehicles on criteria including design, safety, performance, innovation and sustainability. The IONIQ 9’s victory underscores Hyundai’s growing influence in the premium electric SUV segment worldwide.
While the IONIQ 9 is not currently available in the South African market, the accolade has generated significant local interest, with Hyundai Automotive South Africa.

As Hyundai’s flagship large electric SUV, the IONIQ 9 has been praised internationally for its commanding design, spacious and technology-rich interior and advanced electric platform. Its global recognition highlights Hyundai’s ability to blend premium comfort with innovation.
“Any decision to introduce world-class vehicles to South African customers, is carefully considered taking into account the right time and the right product. Such a decision needs to make business sense while being cognisant of our local customers’ mobility needs,” concluded Anderson.
