  • The UNI-S features one of the most advanced ADAS suites in the mid-size SUV segment
  • Combines radar, cameras and intelligent software for real-time driver support
  • Includes Adaptive Cruise Control (Stop & Go), AEB, lane keeping and blind spot systems
  • Enhances safety, reduces driver fatigue and improves everyday driving confidence
  • Delivers premium-level driver technology without the traditional cost barrier

Driver assistance technology is no longer a luxury – it’s an expectation. But in many vehicles, it remains limited, fragmented or overly complex. The Changan UNI-S takes a different approach.

Designed to operate as a fully integrated system, its advanced driver assistance suite works continuously in the background – monitoring, analysing and responding in real time to support the driver when it matters most. Using a network of cameras, radar and intelligent software, the UNI-S enhances awareness, reduces workload and actively contributes to a safer, more controlled driving experience.

Intelligent Cruise and Braking Systems

At the heart of the UNI-S driver tech offering is its Integrated Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC) with Stop & Go functionality. This system automatically maintains a safe following distance from vehicles ahead, adjusting speed in real time and bringing the vehicle to a complete stop when required – particularly valuable in urban traffic conditions.

Complementing this is a suite of intelligent braking technologies, including Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and Pedestrian Recognition AEB (AEB-P), designed to detect potential collisions and intervene when necessary. Front Collision Warning (FCW) and Rear Collision Warning (RCW) systems provide additional layers of awareness, alerting the driver to potential hazards before they escalate.

According to Marinus Venter, General Manager of Jameel Motors South Africa: “What sets the UNI-S apart is not just the presence of these systems, but how seamlessly they work together. It’s a fully integrated safety and support ecosystem that actively assists the driver in real-world conditions.”

360° Awareness and Surround Monitoring

The UNI-S enhances driver awareness through a comprehensive set of monitoring systems designed to reduce blind spots and improve visibility in all directions.

Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Lane Change Assist (LCA) provide critical support when changing lanes, while Reverse Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) detects approaching vehicles when reversing out of tight spaces.

A high-definition 540° HD panoramic camera system offers a detailed, real-time view around the vehicle, supported by a parking simulation video display for easier and more precise manoeuvring. These systems work together to give the driver a clearer understanding of their surroundings – particularly in complex urban environments.

Lane Control and Traffic Intelligence

Maintaining lane discipline and responding to changing road conditions is further supported by the UNI-S’s lane and traffic systems. Lane Keeping Assist (LK) actively helps keep the vehicle centred within its lane, while Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) reads and displays key road signage, ensuring the driver remains informed and reassured at all times.

These features are designed not to intrude, but to assist – providing subtle, intelligent inputs that enhance control without overwhelming the driving experience.

Automated Convenience, Elevated Confidence

The UNI-S extends its intelligent capabilities into everyday convenience with features such as Automatic Parking (straight in and out), allowing the vehicle to assist with parking manoeuvres in tight or complex spaces. This, combined with the broader ADAS ecosystem, reduces driver stress in common driving scenarios – from stop-start traffic to urban parking environments.

As Marinus Venter adds: “This level of driver technology is typically associated with higher-end vehicles. With the UNI-S, we’re making that capability accessible – without compromising on performance or usability.”

A New Benchmark for the Segment

The UNI-S demonstrates that advanced driver technology should not be reserved for premium segments alone. By offering a comprehensive, integrated and intelligently designed ADAS suite, it raises the standard for what South African drivers can expect from a mid-size SUV.

It’s not just about adding features – it’s about creating a vehicle that actively supports, protects and enhances every journey.

With the UNI-S, driver technology is no longer an add-on. It’s a defining and differentiating feature.
