The Simola Hillclimb was originally conceived as an exhilarating and adrenaline-fuelled way of bolstering tourism in Knysna. Thanks to the success of the inaugural event in 2009, it rapidly developed into South Africa’s premier motoring and motorsport lifestyle event, set against some of the most spectacular scenery found along the Garden Route.

Now in its 16th edition, the 2026 Simola Hillclimb, which takes place from 30 April to 3 May, is welcoming a new sponsor that also embodies mobility and tourism, with Avis signing up as a Vehicle Rental Partner for this year.

“Since 1967, Avis has been deeply rooted in South Africa’s motoring culture, and the Simola Hillclimb perfectly embodies the passion for performance, precision, and unforgettable driving experiences that we share,” says Litha Nkombisa, Chief Sales Officer, Avis. “As South Africa’s leading car rental company, we were drawn to the event because it brings together everything we love – world-class machinery, engineering excellence, and a vibrant motorsport community – in one of the most spectacular settings on the Garden Route.

“Becoming a Vehicle Rental Partner allows us to play a practical role in making the event seamless for everyone involved: competitors, sponsors, media, and thousands of enthusiastic fans. Whether it’s getting drivers and teams to Knysna, providing reliable transport for spectators, or offering premium and luxury vehicles that match the calibre of the cars on the hill, we’re proud to be the mobility partner that ensures everyone arrives ready to experience the thrill,” Nkombisa says.

While playing an important role in the success of the Simola Hillclimb as a supporting partner, Avis is also bringing tangible benefits to those attending the event by offering a discount on car rental for competitors, crews, spectators, media and partners. With this exclusive rental discount on standard cars and a full range of vehicles, from premium cars and luxury options to safari-ready fleets, Avis is making it easier for visitors from across South Africa and internationally to attend, stay longer, and discover more of what makes the region so special.

“The Simola Hillclimb is a powerful brand-building platform. The event attracts passionate car enthusiasts, families, and corporate partners – exactly the audience that values reliability, premium service, and memorable journeys,” Nkombisa says. “Partnering with the Simola Hillclimb strengthens our position as the most recognised and trusted car rental brand in South Africa while showcasing how Avis supports the events and experiences that bring people together.”

“Avis isn’t just getting our visitors to the start line – it is helping grow the audience that makes the Simola Hillclimb one of Africa’s most sought-after motorsport destinations. When a brand of Avis’ global stature sees the value in this event, it speaks to where the Simola Hillclimb stands on the world stage,” says Ian Shrosbree, Managing Director of the Knysna Speed Festival, which owns and runs the Simola Hillclimb. “The exclusive visitor discount offered by Avis is a tangible commitment to access and inclusivity, and that aligns perfectly with our mission to make Knysna and this extraordinary event accessible to more people every year.”

The discount is valid from 30 April to 31 December 2026, for travel anywhere in South Africa. Visit the Simola Hillclimb page on the Avis website to take up the offer: https://www.avis.co.za/drive-avis/travel-partners/sporting-events/simola-hill

The 16th edition of the Simola Hillclimb takes place from 30 April to 3 May 2026.
