  • The SUV that changed the game is back – bigger in ambition, bolder in design and more advanced than ever before.

Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has introduced the all-new Toyota RAV4, an entirely new generation of the iconic SUV that helped create the modern crossover segment. Reimagined from the ground up, the new RAV4 combines striking design, advanced electrified powertrains, next-generation safety technologies and a connected digital experience in a vehicle built for the way people live, work and explore today.

More capable, more intelligent and more versatile than ever, the all-new RAV4 is ready to help South Africans Discover Every Horizon. From city streets to mountain passes, family road trips to weekend escapes, the all-new RAV4 is designed to adapt, inspire and perform. It is the most advanced, most connected and most versatile RAV4 ever to arrive in South Africa.

More than three decades ago, RAV4 pioneered a segment that didn’t previously exist, combining the comfort and drivability of a passenger car with the practicality, versatility and confidence of an SUV. It was a revolutionary idea at the time. Today, it serves as the blueprint for one of the world’s most popular vehicle categories.

Now entering a new era, the all-new RAV4 builds on that legacy with a stronger design identity, advanced electrified powertrains, significantly enhanced safety technologies, next-generation connectivity and a broader range of derivatives designed to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse customer base.

Developed around the philosophy of “Life is an Adventure” and launched under the theme “Discover Every Horizon”, the new RAV4 has been designed for people who embrace opportunity wherever they find it. Whether that means navigating city streets, tackling the daily school run, escaping for a long weekend or taking the first step into electrified mobility, the new RAV4 is built to make every journey more rewarding.

AN ICON EVOLVES

Since its debut in 1994, more than 15 million RAV4s have been sold globally, making it one of Toyota’s most successful nameplates and one of the world’s best-selling SUVs.

Across six generations, RAV4 has consistently adapted to changing customer needs while remaining true to the qualities that made it a success: reliability, versatility, efficiency and adventure.

The latest generation represents the most comprehensive evolution yet and arrives at a time when SUV buyers expect more from their vehicles. Customers want greater efficiency, advanced safety technologies, intuitive digital experiences, premium comfort and authentic capability. The all-new RAV4 delivers on all fronts while reinforcing its position as Toyota’s flagship urban lifestyle SUV.

DESIGNED FOR MODERN ADVENTURE

The design brief for the all-new RAV4 was clear: retain the toughness and confidence expected of an SUV while introducing greater sophistication, refinement and emotional appeal. The result is a design language Toyota describes as “SUV Toughness Meets Urban Sophistication.”

Viewed from the front, the new RAV4 projects confidence through a bold hexagonal lower bumper, distinctive hammerhead-inspired styling cues and sharp LED lighting signatures. The cat-eye headlamp design reinforces the vehicle’s adventurous character while contributing to improved aerodynamic performance and efficiency.

The side profile retains the upright proportions and strong stance that have become synonymous with RAV4. Pronounced wheel arches, sculpted body surfaces and strong shoulder lines communicate capability, while redesigned mirrors and side mouldings improve aerodynamic efficiency and refinement.

At the rear, sleek lighting elements stretch across the tailgate, framing the prominent RAV4 script and creating a modern, unmistakable identity both day and night.

Practicality remains central to the RAV4 formula. Cargo capacity has increased by four percent, providing greater flexibility for families, active lifestyles and outdoor adventures. Depending on derivative, customers can choose from a range of newly designed alloy wheels, including distinctive 20-inch designs, while an expanded colour palette introduces expressive bi-tone combinations alongside more traditional finishes.

THE MOST DIVERSE RAV4 LINE-UP YET

For the first time, South African customers can choose from petrol, hybrid, performance-inspired hybrid and plug-in hybrid derivatives. This broad line-up reflects Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to electrification, ensuring customers can select the technology that best suits their lifestyle and driving requirements.

The range begins with Toyota’s proven 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 127 kW and 203 Nm. Smooth, responsive and dependable, it remains an ideal choice for customers seeking conventional internal-combustion performance.

The 2.5-litre Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) derivatives introduce Toyota’s latest hybrid technology. Producing 137 kW and 221 Nm, with a total system output of 163 kW, the new hybrid powertrain delivers stronger performance, enhanced responsiveness and impressive efficiency.

Central to this advancement is a newly developed compact lithium-ion battery designed to improve power delivery while reducing weight and packaging requirements. Optimised battery cooling improves thermal management and contributes to quieter operation, while revised control strategies provide smoother acceleration and a more natural driving experience.

Leading the range is the all-new Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). Combining Toyota’s latest sixth-generation PHEV technology with a larger 25.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, it delivers a remarkable 225 kW of total system output together with substantially increased electric driving capability.

The advanced battery features water-cooling technology to improve performance, durability and charging efficiency while delivering a more seamless EV driving experience. The result is exhilarating performance, impressive efficiency and the flexibility to complete many daily journeys using electricity alone.

The RAV4 GX and VX are available in five exterior colours: Platinum White Pearl, Attitude Black, Moon Grey, Smokey Blue and Midnight Green. The GR-S and PHEV models are offered exclusively in bi-tone finishes, each paired with a black roof. Available colour options include Platinum White Pearl, Smokey Blue, Passion Red, Moonlight Ocean, Avant-Garde Bronze and Moon Grey.

ADVANCED PHEV TECHNOLOGY

The flagship RAV4 PHEV represents Toyota’s most advanced electrified SUV technology currently available in South Africa. Its high-capacity 25.4 kWh battery operates at 391 volts and comprises 104 battery cells, delivering an electric driving range of up to 142 kilometres under test conditions. For many customers, this means daily commuting can be completed without using fuel at all.

Charging flexibility has been prioritised from the outset. The RAV4 PHEV supports multiple charging solutions, from convenient home charging to public AC and DC fast-charging infrastructure. An 11 kW onboard charger significantly reduces charging times, and each vehicle is supplied with charging cables and an AC wallbox charger, making the transition to electrified mobility easier than ever before.

THE FIRST-EVER RAV4 GR-S

One of the most exciting additions to the range is the introduction of the first-ever RAV4 GR-S. Developed using principles inspired by Toyota Gazoo Racing, the GR-S is far more than a styling package. It introduces a more emotional and engaging character while retaining the versatility that has always defined RAV4.

Exclusive exterior enhancements include a unique mesh grille, distinctive aerodynamic treatments, wider gloss-black wheel arch mouldings, GR badging and striking 20-inch alloy wheels with red brake callipers.

Beneath the surface, dedicated shock absorbers, revised spring rates, reinforced suspension components and a 15 mm reduction in ride height contribute to sharper responses and improved driver engagement.

GR engineers have further recalibrated the suspension and steering systems to deliver greater precision and feedback. Additional front and rear crossmember braces increase chassis rigidity, improving turn-in response, cornering stability and overall composure.

Inside, GR sports seats, alloy pedals, red contrast stitching and exclusive trim details create an environment that reflects the model’s performance-inspired personality.

The GR-S has been developed for customers who appreciate precision, style and a more connected driving experience.

A DIGITAL-FIRST INTERIOR

Inside, the all-new RAV4 introduces a completely redesigned cabin built around the concepts of functionality, comfort and connectivity. The new “Digital Island” architecture integrates key controls and displays into a clean, intuitive layout, creating an environment that feels both technologically advanced and remarkably easy to use.

A 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster provides multiple display modes and enhanced customisation, allowing drivers to prioritise navigation, safety information, vehicle data or efficiency metrics. Toyota’s latest-generation multimedia platform sits at the heart of the cabin experience. Depending on grade, customers either have a 10.5-inch or 12.9-inch touchscreen displays featuring faster processing, enhanced graphics, wireless smartphone integration and customisable widgets.

The new system has been designed to feel as intuitive as the devices customers use every day. Higher-grade derivatives introduce premium features including JBL audio, wireless charging, digital rear-view mirror technology, memory-adjustable seats, heated and ventilated seating, panoramic roof options and Toyota’s innovative shift-by-wire technology. Together, these features create an interior that feels modern, sophisticated and ready for the demands of contemporary life.

TOYOTA’S MOST ADVANCED RAV4 YET

Safety has always been central to the RAV4 story, and the new generation raises the benchmark once again. The all-new RAV4 introduces Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, marking the first application of the system on a Toyota model in South Africa.

Designed to support the driver in an increasingly complex driving environment, the latest-generation suite delivers improved functionality, enhanced awareness and greater intervention capability. The system incorporates a Driver Monitor System, Adaptive High Beam System, Road Sign Assist, Emergency Steering Assist and Intersection Collision Avoidance functionality.

Depending on grade, customers can also benefit from technologies including Blind Spot Monitoring with Safety Exit Assist, Parking Support Brake, Intelligent Park Assist, Head-Up Display and a Driver Monitor Camera. A 3D Panoramic View Monitor improves visibility during parking and low-speed manoeuvres, while Parking Support Brake technology helps reduce the likelihood of minor collisions in confined spaces.

Together, these systems reinforce Toyota’s commitment to making advanced safety technology more accessible across the range while creating a safer and more confident driving experience regardless of destination.

ENGINEERED FOR CONFIDENCE

Underpinning the all-new RAV4 is an enhanced version of Toyota’s TNGA-K platform, developed to improve every aspect of the driving experience. Engineers focused extensively on structural rigidity, resulting in a 9.7 percent increase in overall body rigidity compared with the previous generation. A lighter yet stronger body structure improves handling precision while simultaneously enhancing ride comfort and refinement.

The incorporation of high-damping adhesives further reduces vibration and noise, creating a quieter and more comfortable cabin environment. Suspension continues to utilise a MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear arrangement, but the system has been comprehensively refined to improve steering response, ride quality and stability.

Upgraded braking hardware, electronically controlled braking systems and Vehicle Braking Posture Control work together to improve stopping performance, reduce body movement and enhance driver confidence.

The all-wheel-drive system has also been further enhanced to provide greater capability when conditions become challenging, ensuring the new RAV4 remains every bit as adventurous as its predecessors.
