Geely Auto South Africa is proud to announce the arrival of the all-new Geely Coolray, a compact SUV designed to challenge expectations and inject genuine excitement into one of South Africa’s most competitive vehicle segments.

Combining bold styling, spirited performance, intelligent technology and comprehensive safety, the Coolray embodies Geely’s “Born to Battle” philosophy. It arrives as a confident challenger in the compact SUV category, delivering a compelling blend of driving enjoyment, everyday practicality and outstanding value.

Globally, the Coolray has become one of Geely’s most successful products, earning recognition as the brand’s most widely exported SUV and establishing itself as a benchmark in markets across Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America. Its arrival in South Africa marks another important milestone in Geely’s continued growth and commitment to offering customers a diverse range of mobility solutions.

“Geely’s success in South Africa has been built on understanding what customers want from their vehicles and delivering products that exceed those expectations,” said Jateen Daya, Head of Product & Strategy at Geely Auto South Africa.

Our portfolio now spans fully electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and highly efficient petrol-powered models, ensuring customers can choose the technology that best suits their lifestyle and mobility needs. The new Coolray further strengthens that offering by introducing a compact SUV that combines eye-catching design, engaging performance and intelligent technology in a package that is both practical and exciting to own.”

Daya added: “The Coolray has proven itself globally as one of Geely’s most important products. South African motorists can now experience a vehicle that offers the performance, refinement and technology expected from a premium product, while remaining accessible and highly competitive within its segment.”

According to Jacqueline Kruger, Head of Marketing at Geely Auto South Africa, the Coolray represents an important addition to the brand’s growing local portfolio and is ideally positioned to appeal to a broad spectrum of South African consumers.

The Coolray has been developed for customers who want more from their SUV. It is designed to stand out visually, deliver a rewarding driving experience and offer technology that enhances everyday life. It reflects the confidence, ambition and individuality of a new generation of South African motorists.”

“With its striking design, advanced features and exceptional value proposition, the Coolray is perfectly positioned to resonate with both first-time SUV buyers and families looking for a vehicle that combines practicality with genuine personality.”

BORN TO BATTLE… DESIGN

The all-new Coolray introduces an assertive interpretation of Geely’s latest design language, combining athletic proportions with distinctive motorsport-inspired detailing.

Its dynamic silhouette is characterised by sharply sculpted body surfaces, a muscular shoulder line and a contrasting two-tone roof available on Vanguard and Vertex derivatives. Together, these elements create a sense of movement and energy even when the vehicle is standing still.

The front fascia makes an immediate statement. A bold vertical-slat grille is framed by dramatic aerodynamic fins that visually widen the vehicle’s stance, while sleek LED headlamps deliver a focused and purposeful appearance. The result is a front-end design that communicates confidence and performance.

At the rear, distinctive twin-pod LED taillamps, a sculpted bumper design and diffuser-inspired lower styling further reinforce the Coolray’s sporty character. The wide stance and carefully executed surfacing create a planted and athletic appearance that reflects the vehicle’s dynamic capabilities.

Exclusive to the flagship Vertex derivative is a striking motorsport-inspired rear wing featuring integrated side fins and prominent “S” badging. Positioned high above the rear glass, the wing serves as both a visual centrepiece and a statement of performance intent.

The Coolray is offered in a vibrant palette of contemporary exterior colours, including White, Grey, Silver, Green and Red, allowing customers to select a finish that best reflects their individual style.

BORN TO BATTLE… ENGINEERING

Beneath its bold exterior lies a platform engineered to deliver a balanced combination of agility, stability and everyday comfort.

The Coolray rides on a 2,600 mm wheelbase and features a suspension system comprising MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion-beam arrangement at the rear. This setup delivers responsive handling characteristics while maintaining impressive ride comfort across varying road conditions.

Electric Power Steering provides precise and confidence-inspiring responses, while ventilated front disc brakes and rear disc brakes ensure reassuring stopping performance.

Measuring 4,380 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width and 1,609 mm in height, and offering 161 mm of ground clearance, the Coolray strikes an ideal balance between urban manoeuvrability and SUV versatility.

BORN TO BATTLE… PERFORMANCE

Every Coolray derivative is powered by Geely’s advanced 1.5-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine, developed to deliver an impressive balance of performance and efficiency.

The four-cylinder powerplant produces 128 kW at 5,500 rpm and a substantial 290 Nm of torque between 2,000 and 3,500 rpm, providing strong acceleration and effortless overtaking performance across a wide operating range.

Power is delivered to the front wheels through a sophisticated seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Engineered for smoothness, durability and efficiency, the transmission enables lightning-fast gear changes while maximising power delivery and fuel economy.

The result is a 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 7.6 seconds, positioning the Coolray among the strongest performers in its segment.

Despite its impressive performance credentials, the Coolray achieves a combined fuel consumption figure of only 6.5 litres per 100 km, ensuring affordability and efficiency remain central to the ownership experience.

Drivers can further personalise their experience through four selectable driving modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport and Adaptive. These settings allow the vehicle’s responses to be tailored to individual driving preferences and changing road conditions.

BORN TO BATTLE… TECHNOLOGY

Inside, the Coolray combines intelligent technology with a modern, driver-focused cabin environment.

Dominating the dashboard is a 14.6-inch high-definition infotainment touchscreen that serves as the central hub for connectivity, entertainment and vehicle information. Complementing this is an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster that presents key driving information in a clear and intuitive format.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility come standard across the range, ensuring seamless smartphone integration. Bluetooth connectivity, multiple USB ports and intuitive operating systems help drivers and passengers remain connected throughout every journey.

Depending on specification level, customers can also enjoy wireless smartphone charging, multi-colour ambient lighting, power-adjustable seating, a panoramic sunroof and an electric tailgate.

Practicality remains a key strength. The Coolray comfortably accommodates five occupants while offering 330 litres of luggage capacity, expanding to 1,054 litres with the rear seats folded, as well as many flexible storage spaces throughout the vehicle.

BORN TO BATTLE… SAFETY

Safety remains a cornerstone of the Coolray programme, with every derivative benefiting from a comprehensive suite of active and passive safety technologies.

Standard safety features include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring and ISOFIX child-seat anchor points.

The Coolray’s advanced body structure incorporates extensive use of high-strength steel, enhancing occupant protection while contributing to overall structural rigidity and crash performance.

Higher-specification derivatives introduce additional passive safety systems and advanced driver assistance technologies. Vanguard and Vertex models feature six airbags, while the flagship Vertex offers a sophisticated Level 1 ADAS package.

This includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Intelligent High Beam Control and Traffic Jam Assist.

Vanguard and Vertex models are also equipped with a 540-degree panoramic camera system, providing drivers with a comprehensive view of the vehicle’s surroundings and enhancing confidence during parking and low-speed manoeuvres.

BORN TO BATTLE… CHOICE

The Coolray range has been carefully structured to offer customers a choice of three well-equipped derivatives.

The entry-level Nova delivers an impressive specification list, including alloy wheels, LED lighting, keyless entry, a multifunction steering wheel, a 14.6-inch infotainment display, digital instrumentation, automatic climate control and a comprehensive safety package.

The mid-range Vanguard introduces premium features such as 18-inch gloss-black alloy wheels, perforated leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, ambient lighting, a six-speaker audio system, a 540-degree camera system and additional airbags.

At the top of the range, the flagship Vertex adds a panoramic sunroof, electric tailgate, wireless charging, distinctive motorsport-inspired styling elements and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance technologies.

Born to Battle Value

The all-new Geely Coolray is available in three derivatives:

  • Coolray 1.5TD 7DCT Nova
  • Coolray 1.5TD 7DCT Vanguard
  • Coolray 1.5TD 7DCT Vertex

In addition, the Coolray is available through Geely Finance with a Guaranteed Future Value (GFV) of 67% (T&C’s apply).

All prices include VAT and are backed by Geely Care+, comprising a 5-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, 5-year/150,000 km engine warranty, 5-year/50,000 km service plan and 5-year unlimited roadside assistance.

“The Coolray reflects Geely’s commitment to delivering world-class products that offer exceptional quality, innovation and value,” said Jateen Daya.

Jacqueline Kruger, Head of Marketing at Geely Auto South Africa, added:

“The Coolray represents another important step in Geely’s growth journey locally. As we continue to expand our presence in South Africa, products such as the Coolray play a vital role in introducing more customers to the Geely brand and everything it stands for.”

“With its bold design, impressive specification, advanced technology and strong value proposition, we are confident that the Coolray will resonate strongly with South African consumers and make a significant impact in the compact SUV segment.
