In an automotive market that is becoming more competitive every day, Hyundai Automotive South Africa has started 2026 with a confident performance that highlights the growing importance of value-driven customer experience.

According to National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) January 2026 figures, Hyundai Automotive South Africa recorded 3,048 new vehicle sales, retaining its position as the fourth-largest automotive brand in South Africa.

A total of 50,073 new vehicles were sold last month, representing an increase of 3,479 units over the same month in 2025. 85.4% of these sales took place through dealer channels, while the rental industry accounted for 10.9%, followed by industry fleets (2.1%) and government sales (1.6%).

Hyundai Automotive South Africa’s popular entry level cars delivered a strong start to 2026, with the Hyundai i20 and Grand i10 posting a combined 24.7% year-on-year sales growth, highlighting demand in the value segment.  The i20 led the charge, climbing sharply from 336 units in January 2025 to 550 units this January, while the consistently strong Grand i10 grew from 1,163 to 1,320 units over the same period.

The growth points to a growing consumer preference of affordable, fuel efficient cars that offer modern features without stretching the budget, as more motorists look for smart value, particularly first-time buyers.

“In an uncertain economic environment, customers are making far more considered purchasing decisions,” said Stanley Anderson, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa.  “Our focus as a business is to lead responsibly and ensure that every vehicle we sell delivers genuine value for money over the long term.”

Anderson noted that affordability is no longer defined solely by purchase price but by the full ownership experience.  “Consumers and businesses are looking closely at reliability, fuel efficiency, aftersales support, running costs as well as resale value.  Our commitment is to offer products that perform well across all of these dimensions, while continuing to invest in our dealer network and service capability.”

Hyundai Automotive South Africa remains focused on customer trust rather than volume at any cost, therefore, maintaining relevance in a market where value, increasingly drives purchasing decisions.
