Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans took his first win of the 2025/26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship at the Miami E-Prix, climbing from ninth on the grid on a damp track to take a memorable victory.
It marked the Kiwi’s 15th career win in Formula E, all with Jaguar, meaning he’s now taken the most victories in the championship’s 11-year history. The Jaguar TCS Racing #9 driver also took the fastest lap at the Miami International Autodrome, confirming his peerless form in difficult conditions.
It looked at one stage likely to be a double-podium finish for Jaguar TCS Racing in Miami, with António Félix da Costa running strongly at the front for much of the race. Unfortunately, while running in third place Antonio was hit by Andretti’s Felipe Drugovich, the resulting damage causing him to drop back and eventually finish in eighth place.
Although rain fell throughout the race, qualifying was dry and the two Jaguar TCS Racing I-TYPE 7s placed in the top ten. António showed strong pace throughout, making it through to the Duels before losing out in the Semi-Finals meaning he lined up third, while Mitch was unfortunate to miss out on the Duels stage by just 0.058s and started ninth.
The race got underway behind the Safety Car following rainfall just before the start, but after four laps the cars lined up on the grid for a standing start. A number of cars deployed their first Attack Mode early amid damp track conditions to create a gap to the rest of the field, but António and Mitch’s strong pace ensured they held onto the lead group throughout the opening stages and each with eight minutes of Attack Mode still to take.
From sixth, António decisively used his first Attack Mode on lap 15 and was able to move into first place over the next two laps, before Mitch moved up four places from seventh after taking two minutes of Attack Mode on Lap 19. The Jaguar TCS Racing duo then battled Nico Müller for the lead, with Mitch overtaking António before expertly snatching the lead from the Porsche driver on the run out of the final corner on lap 27.
António’s bid for a first Jaguar TCS Racing podium had been compromised a lap earlier, when he was hit by Andretti’s Felipe Drugovich after the Brazilian outbraked himself into the last corner. Drugovich was given a ten-second penalty for the contact and although António was able to continue, his Jaguar I-TYPE 7 was heavily damaged by the collision. The Jaguar TCS Racing #13 fought hard, but his pace was impacted by the damage causing his drop down the field to eighth place.
At the front, Mitch managed to take his second Attack Mode and stay in front of Müller’s Porsche all the way to the flag, taking the fastest lap of the race en route to his first victory of the campaign.
Ian James, taking his first win as Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal, said: “I am absolutely thrilled for everyone in the Jaguar TCS Racing team following a superb victory in Miami. In damp and tricky conditions Mitch drove peerlessly to take the win, and claiming the record for the highest number of victories in Formula E history, all with Jaguar, is testament to his skill behind the wheel.
“It was so unfortunate that António was taken out of the running whilst looking set to join Mitch on the podium and having shown great pace both in the wet and dry. He was an innocent party in the contact but fought hard to take his first points since joining the team, despite a damaged car. He will bounce back in Jeddah where we will look to build on this strong result.”
Mitch Evans, Jaguar TCS Racing driver #9, said: “It’s such an incredible feeling taking this record-breaking win here in Miami. To have taken the most number of wins in Formula E is a special feeling and to come from behind to take the win makes it even sweeter.
“In the conditions the race definitely came to us and I was able to keep the pace throughout. I hope today’s win kickstarts our season and the aim is to take this good form into the Jeddah double-header.”
António Félix da Costa, Jaguar TCS Racing driver #13, said: “I’m pleased for the team and Mitch as with the win and my eighth place we got good points on the board, which is a great reward for everyone’s hard work, but personally I’m disappointed. We had great pace in the Jaguar I-TYPE 7 and I was absolutely in the fight for a top-three finish when my race was ruined by someone else’s mistake. But, my season starts here. We’re quick – and Jeddah can’t come fast enough.”
Mitch now climbs to sixth overall in the Drivers’ World Championship, with António moving up to fourteenth as a result of his first points for the team. Jaguar TCS Racing is now seventh in the Teams’ World Championship and Jaguar up to third in the Manufacturers’ standings.
Jaguar TCS Racing will return to racing in two weeks’ time at the Jeddah E-Prix (13-14 February).
