Hino trucks operating around the world are renowned for reliability and durability, but usually they are heavy commercial models and many of them cover more than a million kilometres. However, this is seldom the case with a two-ton truck operating in an urban environment with stop and go driving.
Green’s Radiator Service, based in – Johannesburg, has just seen one million kilometres clocked up on its Hino 200 ,4-093 (previously known as a Toyota Dyna). The truck was bought new from Rand Stadium Toyota in The Glen, Johannesburg in 2006.
It has performed reliably ever since, requiring only regular servicing and brake and clutch maintenance in 19 years on the road. None of the major drivetrain components have been replaced and all servicing has been carried out by Hino Isando.
The truck, which still looks incredibly good despite its hard working life, continues doing duty collecting and delivering a wide variety of radiators, intercoolers, charge air coolers for customers in the industrial business sector, including mining, locomotive, generator, and automotive businesses.
Green’s Radiator Service’s Hino 200 is fitted with a standard drop side body and continues to be in regular use despite an odometer now stuck on 999 999 km! It usually has a dedicated driver and over the 19 years only four people have driven this truck, with Samuel Kubheka, a 25-year company veteran, having been at the wheel for the bulk of the distance.
Bradley Green, a director of Green’s Radiator Service, says the company has been a loyal supporter of Hino trucks for many years and currently runs three Hino 300-series models – one each of 714, 816 and 915 – beside the 200-series 4-093 two tonner in its four-truck fleet.
“We are most impressed by the reliability and durability of our Hino trucks and find them well suited to our type of operation and only replace them with a new Hino when necessary,” commented Bradley Green.
